ORPHEUS MAGAZINE

1).  I as many others would like you to tell me. How did you meet ?

Charlene April:  We met about 5 years ago at a sport's bar and grill not far from Chicago.  I didn't even want to go out that evening but my friend talked me into it.  When we got there we met up with some people that we both knew.  Daniel and his friends were talking amongst my friends so that's basically how Daniel and I came together.  We talked a lot about music that first night and seemed to hit it off really well.  Shortly after that he let me listen to some songs he recorded on his keyboard and I was instantly hooked.  I wanted the chance to sing to some of his work.  Ever since then we have been songwriting together.

2).  Could you tell me what you appreciate in your partner as a quality and tell me what his/her biggest defect is?

Charlene April: What I appreciate most is Daniel's overall skills as a musician.  Unlike many electronic bands Daniel can play several instruments very well, especially guitar.  He is also completely self-taught which requires a tremendous amount of patience to learn new equipment and software.  He tries hard to push for the best possible performances from me.  He is extremely detail oriented and has been known to write entire songs (that I think are great) and then scratch them because they are not quite what he wanted.  I don't really think he has any "defects" although sometimes I think he cares too much about what others may think of the music, as do I, which can be a problem or can stifle creativity.

Daniel Guenther: The most wonderful thing about Charlene is that she brings a unique and strong vocal styling to BF/E, if the song I create is really strong, or a slower track, I never have to worry if there will be vocals and lyrics that make sense, the lyrics always fit the story of the song. Lyrically she creates a story that is forceful, elegant and something that I couldn’t find in a songwriter if I searched the world over, it wouldn’t be Blind Faith and Envy without her. If you forced me to tell you a defect, the only problem I could pick out is that Charlene always wants to record, and I just don’t have that much music.

3). In “Stand Me Relentless” as in other songs you write on sentimental relationship. Do they reflect any experiences of feelings that you have lived ?

Charlene April:  All the lyrics I write come from something either I have lived through directly or I have seen others live through.  My lyrics are interpretations of events or situations.  We are all so similar and have all experienced love and loss, which is why so many artists only sing about those issues.  However there are a million other issues that others can relate too and I like to tap into some of those issues for originality.  For example; the first track on the album called "Golden Glass" is about the under paid and under appreciated workers who deserve much more than what they are receiving, I think everyone can relate to that.

4).  I’ve heard a very beautiful new song that I can’t find on your first album : “The Charming Factor” and that is called “Walking in the park”. Does it mean that you will soon release a new album ?

Daniel Guenther: Walking In The Park was released on the February 2005 Sonic Seducer magazine compilation, it is exclusive to that CD; we have been busy writing several exclusive tracks for various compilations. A song we just wrote called “Just Like Anyone” will appear on an upcoming Orkus magazine release and a new song entitled “Secret Affair” will be another exclusive track released on the Infacted Vol.2 Compilation due out this April. As of now we started writing our new album, which has a much more industrial dance influence. Keep checking www.BlindFaithandEnvy.com for updates. Hopefully we will have it released by summer!

5).   Let’s not leave the songs. On this first album there is an original cover of Depeche Mode. Why did you choose to take this song ?

Daniel Guenther: Shout is such a great song with amazing melody and lyrics, it was the feeling behind this song that got us wanting to do this song our own way and hope Depeche Mode fans would approve of the drastic change. So far we have gotten great feedback with our version.

6).  The name of your group has something poetical. Where does it come from ?

Charlene April:  Our band name comes from some lyrics I wrote a while back.  I liked the sound and feel of the phrase I came up with for a chorus that went "there goes my blind faith and envy."  It just stuck with us ever since then.  The phrase means different things to different people, which is really cool for people to creatively realize what it might mean to them.
